Overview

The Pokhara–Jomsom–Muktinath route offers one of Nepal’s most scenic and spiritually enriching journeys, combining natural beauty, cultural heritage, and religious significance. Starting from the tranquil lakeside city of Pokhara, the journey leads north into the Mustang region, passing through the dramatic Kali Gandaki Gorge—the deepest in the world.

Jomsom, a windswept town nestled between the towering Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, serves as a gateway to Upper Mustang and Muktinath. The route then ascends to the sacred temple of Muktinath (3,800m), a revered pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Here, devotees seek spiritual cleansing by bathing under the temple’s 108 sacred water spouts and witnessing the eternal flame believed to burn continuously from natural gas.

Whether approached by trekking through picturesque villages or by a short flight and jeep ride, this journey showcases the striking contrast between Nepal’s lush mid-hills and the arid landscapes of the trans-Himalayan plateau. Along the way, travelers encounter rich Thakali culture, ancient monasteries, and panoramic views of snow-capped peaks—making it a truly unforgettable adventure.
